What is Quarks?

Our little manifesto

Humans have always liked telling stories.

It is a primal desire, one that has led to the creation of the various mythologies, epics, and all the art that surrounds us. The ability to capture the abstractions of our mind through words and drawings which then inspire ideas within others is what separates humans from all other living beings. We are almost limitless in our capability for self-expression — we have developed countless channels over the years, be they sculptures, paintings, poems, dance forms, songs or, in our case, magazines!

To us, Quarks is a way of communication.

So, what is Quarks?
Quarks is IISc’s undergraduate magazine. Quarks is a way of communication, a mode of expression, a blank canvas where we invite all creative minds to share their vibrant visions. We bring stories, poems, paintings, photographs, and every form of artistic creation into the spotlight. Driven by the collaborative spirit of the student community, we have been dedicated to this mission since 2012, making Quarks one of the oldest student-led initiatives on campus.

Do we only publish magazines and newsletters?
Not really! We offer the world a peek into the diverse facets of UG life at the institute. From the events we relish to the challenges we face, from the stories we write to the pictures we click, from the talks of brilliant minds to the light-hearted game nights, we aspire to capture what it feels like to be a UG at IISc.

Tell us your stories! ✍

Tell us your stories, struggles, what’s on your mind, or what you are passionate about. Express yourself in your own unique style. There are no limitations on language, length, genre, topic, or theme. Send us a poorly drawn comic, or a list of insider jokes, or tell us how you feel after submitting all your pending assignments on MS Teams! Whether it’s a masterpiece or a backbench doodle, we can’t wait to see what you create. Bring your creativity to Quarks, and let’s make something amazing together!
